- Incorporated in 1978 as a 501c3, the Urban League of Central Carolinas is an affiliate of the National Urban League and a United Way participating agency.
- The Urban League serves those in need of education, skills training, career development, employment services, and youth programming.
- Currently operates programs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Union County. Plans in the future to expand to other surrounding counties. Two state-of-the-art computer labs at the main office with more than 75 computers.
- Served over 1000 people in 2005 -2006, of which over 700 were youth.
- Our job placement rate in our adult program is 85%.
Professional Adult Empowerment Program (PEP) The Professional Adult Empowerment Program is a 6-week career development program designed especially for underserved adults (low-skilled and/or un/underemployed). We use a holistic approach to help our students enhance their professionalism as well as their computer and interviewing skills.
Customized Computer Training: Using Microsoft Office and computer lab rentals to companies.
Stepping Up Adult Training Program: A new adult workface-training program, to eligible Hispanic/Latino incumbent and dislocated workers.
Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP): program is designed to assist at-risk, out of school and/or adjudicated youth between the ages of 18-21 in becoming more self-sufficient members of their communities.

Linking Youth To Technology through Education (LYTE): Program serving 250-300 youth by providing training in computer information technology resulting in increased computer skills.
Make a Difference Community Centers (MADC): Provides after-school and summer camp services for almost 100 children and youth yearly.
The League’s most recent annual report of 2005-2006 indicates funding as follows: 12% contributions & memberships; 10% special events; 26% United Way; 47% Government and Private Grants/program services; and 5% miscellaneous. Sustaining funds and membership fees will assist the Urban League to continue operating and maintaining its vital services and programs to the community. |
