ABOUT THE GUILD

The Urban League Guild was established in 1942 as a fundraising component to the National Urban League. The Urban League GUILD Central Carolinas is, an integral, part of the Urban League Central Carolinas. The concept of local Guilds assisting, local league affiliates, with fundraising activities spread and today a number of local affiliates have Guild auxiliaries. The Guild mission has evolved, over time, and presently the Guild mission, as an arm of the local affiliate, is to: Enhance and improve relations with the community and general public; develop and implement community programs and fundraising activities on behalf of the Urban League affiliate.

The Urban League Guild of Central Carolinas is chartered by the National Urban League, the National Council of Urban League Guilds, and is governed by a constitution and by-laws adopted by its membership. An elected executive committee consists of the following officers and members:

• President Austin Roper
• Vice-President Ernest E. Walker
• Secretary Sheila Etheridge-Boddie
• Treasurer Willie L. Lipscombe
• Parliamentarian Emma G. Scott
• Fundraising Chair Mary Whisonant


Guild membership is open to all individuals who express an interest in the mission of the National Urban League, the Urban League of Central Carolinas and the Urban League Guild of Central Carolinas. Annual membership fee is a minimum $50.00.

The GUILD sponsors several fund-raising events annually:
• The Urban League Guild’s annual Golf Tournament
• The Urban League Guild’s Gospel Extravaganza
• The Urban League Guild’s Silent Auction & Raffle

The GUILD operates and sponsors programs in the following areas:
• Health and Wellness
• Voter Education and Registration
• Education Scholarships
• Education Workshops
• Disaster Relief

The Urban League Guild of Central Carolinas meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM at the Urban League Building located at 740 West Fifth Street, Charlotte, NC 28202. Come out and join us. Mission Statement

The Urban League Guild of Central Carolinas (ULGCC) is a volunteer auxiliary of the Urban League of Central Carolinas (ULCC) with the responsibility of promoting economic self-sufficiency among African American families and racial inclusion in our communities; improving the League’s public image; and increasing awareness of the League in Greater Charlotte area.
