Urban League Young Professionals

A Letter from the President

It is with pleasure that I welcome you to the Urban League of Central Carolinas Young Professionals Auxiliary. Since 1910, the National Urban League has been committed to empowerment through programs that focus on education, job training and placement, housing, business development, wealth education and more.

This year, our National Urban League President, Mark H. Morial, has put forth the Opportunity Compact; Blueprint for Economic Equality.  The Opportunity Compact is the culmination of extensive research and policy analysis by the National Urban League Policy Institute (NULPI) and is based upon the input of dozens of policy experts from academia, public policy think tanks, non-profit service and advocacy organizations, the business sector, and the Urban League Movement! There are four cornerstones of the Opportunity Compact:

  1. The Opportunity to Thrive (Children)
  2. The Opportunity to Earn (Jobs)
  3. The Opportunity to Own (Housing)
  4. The Opportunity to Prosper (Entrepreneurship)

The National Urban League will accomplish these goals by working closely with its local affiliates and establishing auxiliaries to reach diverse populations. How can you make a difference? By joining the Urban League of Central Carolinas Young Professionals Auxiliary (YPs). Joining the YPs will give you the opportunity to contribute your expertise to help someone achieve one or all four cornerstones of the Opportunity Compact; further develop your social and professional skills; and become part of a 55 chapter, 9000 member strong national network!

The YPs are committed to improving the quality of life in our communities, and our increasing presence in the community is a testament to this endeavor. In addition to community service, the YPs are actively engaged in political action, professional development, mentorship programs, financial literacy, and social networking!

Our goal is to continue enlisting committed young professionals that are willing to give of their time, energy and resources to create change in our communities. We realize that individual success is meaningless without the commitment to improve our collective community. If part of your life’s journey is to empower your community, join the Urban League of Central Carolinas’ quest to challenge history, create change in the present, and offer a brighter future for tomorrow.

Yours in the Movement,
Okeatta D. Brown
