Unsung Hero Award. The Urban League of Central Carolinas will use this award to recognize a local individual

characteristics that would qualify individuals for nomination include demonstrating feats of courage,
sacrificing for the betterment of their community, promoting urban empowerment, dedication to racial and
social inclusion, affinity for serving individuals in transition, engaging in selfless acts, creating opportunities for

After a yearlong search, the Urban League hires Dr. Patrick Graham to lead the agency as the new
President/CEO.
The Urban League of Central Carolinas, Inc. has named Dr. Patrick
C. Graham of Crisis Assistance Ministry as the new President/CEO of the agency.
Graham’s first day,
September 17, 2007, will coincide with the League’s second largest fundraiser the 14th Annual Urban
League Guild Golf Tournament, which will take place at Verdict Ridge Country Club & Golf Course in
Denver, NC. As the Urban League’s new leader, Graham will oversee an organization that has nearly 30
years of service in this community and has affected the lives of over 20,000 people in Charlotte and

National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME) to honor the achievements of Marc Morial during the Annual International Women's Leadership Summit in Charlotte, NC October 5, 2007.
"NABFEME selects men of the highest caliber who exemplify the organization's standard of excellence,” said Johnnie Walker, president and founder of NABFEME. “Marc Morial has been an intricate force in our organization and the empowerment of black women in music and entertainment,” added Walker.
Former Mayor of New Orleans Marc Morial is the 8th president and CEO of the nation's largest and oldest civil rights organization empowering African Americans, the National Urban League. In 2003, upon his inauguration, he presented a progressive platform, "The Empowerment Agenda." His agenda emphasizes areas in Education & Youth, Economic Empowerment, Health & Quality of Life, Civic Engagement and Civil Rights & Racial Justice. He created the new quantitative "Equality Index" to effectively measure the disparities in urban communities across these five areas. The index is now a part of the League's annual The State of Black America report. Prior to joining the National Urban League, Morial served two distinguished four-year terms (1994-2002) as Mayor of New Orleans, maintaining a 70% approval rating. In an effort to assist young adults ready to change their lives, the Urban League is
offering the Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) for the third year. We are excited to report that we
have been awarded a grant from the National Urban League and the Department of Labor to continue our
program that will effect the lives of up to 60, 18-21 year old adjudicated and/or at risk youth. The program
gives young adults a chance to become economically self-sufficient by engaging in a curriculum that prepares
them to take the GED, improves math & reading skills, provides paid Internship opportunities with local
employers, and enhances the life skills necessary for students to become productive members of our

new Director of Development.
Trineka D. Greer has joined the Urban League of Central Carolinas, Inc. to head the new fund development program at the organization. Most recently, Greer worked as the Operations
Manager at the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Charlotte, NC. In two years, she was able to
lead the Charlotte walk in raising over $2.6 million of which 50% was granted to beneficiaries in
