Preparing For The Future

The Urban League of Central Carolinas has taken a number of critical steps over the past several years to position itself for growth, including:

1)   Building a permanent, highly visible 20,000 square foot headquarters in Uptown Charlotte. This facility allows us to implement programming to meet today's.  We have two state of the art computer labs with over 50 computers for adult and youth training. We are a national PowerUpİ site for bridging the digital divide, and are partners with the local JobLink, (One-Stop), employment centers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

2)   Changing the name of the Agency to Urban League of Central Carolinas, its present name, from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Urban League to accommodate an expanded service area in the region.

3)   Establishing a "New Business" division within the organization to develop new programs and business opportunities for the League.

4)   Creating the Joe Martin Institute for Race Relations to provide a public forum for advocacy and an environment for the examination and discussion of matters of race.

5)   Serving on the Workforce Investment Board, the Youth Council, Community Works Board and other strategic boards in order to stay in touch with current trends in community service and to advocate for our constituency.

6)   Establishing a satellite office in Union County, NC; with plans to expand into Carbarrus, Mooresville-Iredell and Gastonia counties

7)   Creating quality and performance-focused management systems through application of the Malcolm Baldrige "Quality Assurance Framework;" becoming a demonstration site for "Equipped for the Future" (EFF) Quality Training Standards; and being established as a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) training site - with two nationally certified CDF Instructors using the "Working Ahead" curriculum for Workforce professionals. These and other nationally recognized improvement initiatives are provided through partnerships with the National Urban League (NUL) for training and certification.
