Empowering Communities. Changing Lives.
  • November 6, 1978: Incorporated as the 116th affiliate of the National Urban League, the 31st in the south, and 4th in the Carolinas 
  • May 1979: ULCC receives its charter with a $50,000 annual budget and 150 members. Headquartered in an office at the First Union National Bank in downtown Charlotte 
  • Summer 1979: First project: filling 100 jobs in major Charlotte businesses, establishing the Urban League as the prime service provider for private sector jobs under the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) of 1978. 
  • 1981: United Way recognized ULCC’s purpose and success and ULCC became a United Way member, receiving annual funding from the organization.
