Robyn Hamilton Named interim CEO of Urban League of Central Carolinas

The newly appointed interim CEO of the Urban League of Central Carolinas has one immediate mission: listen and learn.

Robyn Hamilton brings extensive experience as a consultant and working in health, human services, and economic development to the job. The Urban League’s board named Hamilton interim CEO after Teddy McDaniel resigned Nov. 30.

“Priority No. 1 is to shut my mouth and listen,” Hamilton told CBJ. “There are a lot of moving parts in this organization.”

Hamilton started her consulting business, The Hamilton Experience, here in June 2011. Since then, she has held full-time jobs with other organizations, including Novant Health and as head of procurement and diversity for Charlotte in 2012, the local organizing arm for the Democratic National Convention.

Hamilton put a temporary stop to her consulting business when she became the Urban League’s interim CEO.

Hamilton did not have much experience working directly with the Urban League before replacing McDaniel, but she noted her work in community engagement and minority business development made her aware of the nonprofit’s programs. “I’m excited to be able to bring that expertise, those relationships, and that perspective supporting the Urban League during this time of transition,” Hamilton said.
